Very disappointed and would not come back, won’t recommend.

Ordered a custom birthday cake for my wife. Wanted the same as their “Vanilla Strawberry and Cream” cake, but with raspberries instead, and extra raspberries.

1- miscommunication in the email exchange to confirm my order. When I phoned the day before the birthday to make sure everything was alright they had forgotten about my order. Luckily I called early enough so they could still make the cake on time.

2- not according to what I ordered. I asked for extra raspberries in the cake, the quantity in the cake was actually barely normal. The icing is also buttercream based, nothing like the “Vanilla Strawberry and Creme” base cake we wanted, no white chocolate / whipped cream icing. See photo.

I paid 80$ for a small modification to one of their cakes (change strawberry to raspberry, ask for more raspberry) and feel ripped off given the bad icing and small amount of raspberries. Note that 80$ is 30$ extra compared to the base strawberry cake.

Downgraded from 2 to 1 star has merchant did not engage to make up for the poor service.

? Disappointing Taste and Service ?

While I was excited to try this new French-inspired bakery, I left feeling quite disappointed. ?

? Taste: The pastries, while visually appealing, lacked the delicate flavors and textures I expect from authentic French baking. ? It seems they're trying to emulate the French style, but many crucial details are missing. ?‍♀️

?‍? Service: Unfortunately, the service was equally underwhelming. The cashier seemed impatient and more interested in rushing me through the line than providing attentive service. ? It felt like they were prioritizing getting to other customers rather than ensuring I had a positive experience. ?

Overall, this bakery fell short of my expectations. I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you're looking for an authentic French pastry experience. ?

Perhaps with some improvements to the recipes and a greater focus on customer service, they could turn things around. ?

The individual cakes looked amazing but they weren't that good.
- I've had better Tiramisu for a lower price. Fancier does not mean better.
- The Chocolate Opera was delicious and my favorite. I enjoyed the coffee flavor on this a lot more than I did the Tiramisu. The chocolate ganache is dark chocolate so it is a bit bitter.
- The Green Tea Cheesecake tasted like regular cheesecake and is dense.
- The Chocolate Truffle Cake wasn't bad but wasn't great.
- The Turtle Cheesecake was super sweet so if you have a sweet tooth, this is for you. It is a dense piece of cheesecake.

The cakes and pastries here are to die for. I always have a tough time deciding what to buy as every item on the menu is lip smacking. The burnt almond cake, raspberry mousse, hazelnut mouse and turtle cheesecake are a must try.

I had read several reviews about the burnt almond cake at Sugar Butter Flour so I decided to stop by when I was in the area. The pastry case was full of all kinds of pastries that ranged from small individual servings and full sized cakes. I got an individual size burnt almond cake and yule log. The burn almond cake is a vanilla and chocolate cake with amaretto custard filling and topped with whipped cream and almonds. The yule log was chocolate cake with a custard filling and chocolate ganache icing. Overall, I was underwhelmed with the desserts. The burnt almond cake just tasted like almond extract and the yule log wasn't anything special. Based on these two desserts, I likely wouldn't return to the Sugar Butter Flour.

update: ordered a custom cake for a work event and it did not only turn out perfect but also tasted amazing!!

My favorite bakery in the sf bay area! Everything tastes so amazing and looks so pretty! Never been disappointed.
I'd recommend to definitely try the burnt almond. Also tried the double cheese cake for the first time yesterday (recommended by the person working there) and while I'm not a fan of cheese cakes, it was delicious and I'll definitely get it again.

I had tried Burnt Almond Cake before and had loved it.
I recently tried the Dark Chocolate Truffle Cake but my experience was disappointing. It looked like it had slabs/layers of just chocolate and very less bread. We had kept it in fridge and it became so hard that we had difficulty cutting a slice. It's still hard even after keeping it in room temperature for more than an hour.
Due to just chocolate in it , it tasted and felt like we are having a big slice of a chocolate bar.
It tasted extra sweet too.

This establishment has a mom and pop type of feel to it. It's run by this kind and gentle hearted lady who is super sweet. There's a wide variety of pastries that are super delicious and fresh. The coffee is also tasty. If you're in the area or happen to be charging your car like I was, check em out.
